For our special exhibition today, it felt only fitting to bring together a little collection of works from across art history that have been directly inspired by the story of Easter.
Caravaggio's painting has always been one of my favorites. It makes things personal and upfront. It reminds the audience that a very real person was there and had feelings and was betrayed by a friend.
Thanks again, George! This compilation was very much appreciated on this special day! Happy Easter to you, rejoice in the fact that he is risen, he is risen, indeed!
A great collection and if I may I would add Dali's Christ of St John on the cross. The first painting I looked upon 'in the flesh' in Glasgow's Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery some 60 years ago. I was mesmerised and it's that masterful piece I thank for my love of painting. I wrote a meander a few years ago of a trip back to Glasgow to look upon it again. I'm not a person of faith but if you do celebrate then best Easter wishes (if you don't then drop the Easter)
A great painting to mention, Harry. I remember you telling me once before about the impact that piece had on you - and I actually had a very experience with my first encounter with it too (albeit, that was in the RA in London - and in an exhibition I had actually wandered into by mistake!).
I will be celebrating Easter alone, so your well wishes are very much appreciated.
Thank you George and Happy Easter to you as well. I was in fact very moved by the drama and the deeply human emotion of these works. A beautiful collection for the holiday.
What a great selection of paintings and sketches you're chosen. Thanks.

Thanks for this cool article! My favourite art piece about Easter is by Mykola Pymonenko called Good Thursday (1887) You should check it out!

Thank you for highlighting Good Friday and Easter, the truest form of the agony and the ecstacy, and hope!!!
Thank you for these excellent choices. Enjoy your weekend.
Amazing! Thanks for putting these together. 🌴Happy Easter
Thanks for the nice collection, George, and a very happy Easter to you also.

I hope that it has been a good day!
Beautiful choices, thank you 😊
Thank you! And Happy Easter!
I’m glad you introduced me to “Ecce Homo” that work is so precise that I can’t help but to feel jealous that someone can create such a work.
Whenever I draw I think of art like this and hope that one day I can create something to stir emotions like that.
There are some wonderful paintings here. Thank you.
Happy Easter, George, and thank you!
