Raphael - The Sistine Madonna

The title of today’s painting is slightly misleading, as it is not something which can be found inside the legendary “Sistine Chapel”, where Michelangelo Buonarotti so famously painted one of the great wonders of the Art World.

Rather, this is an altarpiece which was originally painted for the church of San Sisto in Piacenza, Italy.
