In what has become a minor tradition over the last three years here at Art Every Day - today’s post is another special exhibition, bringing together a little collection of works from across art history that have been directly inspired by the story of Easter.
Holy week and Easter stories are powerful, and the art you selected for this post is equally powerful in the drama and angst it conveys. Thanks, George. Great representation.
Stunning. I believe that art is God's gift to us - whether we practice it or simply admire it - to help make sense of a world that often feels impossible to understand. It draws people together in life, the great exhibition room. And though they may be from different backgrounds, opinions, religions, there's a commonality in appreciating something that transcends our human state. That's nothing but spiritual.
A lovely source of contemplation for this Triduum/Easter! Thank you. One of my favorites for Easter is Eugene Burnand Peter and John running to the tomb. It’s a little..saccharine? Maybe not the most beautiful or interesting painting - but it does for me what all good art should do: pull you into the moment and let you walk around a bit. To me, the expression in Peter’s eyes is remarkable.

Behold the Man! Behold the wood of the Cross! Behold the Lamb of God!
A wonderful collection illustrating the blessings through the years, varied but sharing in the many "feels" they give the viewer. Thank you
Beautiful collection! A happy and blessed Easter to you and all your readers. Thank you for what you do here!
A powerful and moving collection of images! Thanks and happy Easter, George.

Wonderful display, especially the Caravaggio. Also, van Gogh's painting resembles another self-portrait by the troubled artist.
Thank you, George. They are all so powerful.
Thank you so much for sharing this! He is risen! Wishing you all blessings for Resurrection Sunday, and the rest of the year.

Thank you for helping us have a Christ filled Easter time! Wonderful collection. All as pets of the story.
Last time I saw Caravaggio ‘Taking of Christ’ it was in National Gallery Ireland, Dublin
